First major illness and 7 months
Last week we dealt with Jeremiah's first major illness, which had Matt and I worried out of our minds!
It started at the beginning of the week when I noticed that Jeremiah had started to cough and sneeze most of the day. That wasn't normal and I told Matt that I think Jeremiah is getting a cold. Well Jeremiah woke up the next morning and it was full fledged. He had a runny nose, coughing, sneezing, the whole 9 yards. It didn't take long, and soon we were battling a baby who wouldn't eat, fevers, throwing up what little he would eat and couldn't sleep unless he was held upright.
After about 2 days or so of non-stop fevers even with tylenol we took Jeremiah in to the doctor, so that would have been on a friday. His normal doctor wasn't there, so he saw one of the physican assistants. She did her whole spiel and spent quite awhile listening to his lungs. The whole time I was getting more and more worried, as it usually doesn't take that long to listen to the lungs. Then she checked his ears too, which Jeremiah just loved ha (yeah right, he screamed through the whole thing!) When she was done with her exam, she told us that he had the start of a double ear infection. She also said that even though his lungs sounded clear, it was possible that he could have pneumonia. She told us she could send us over to the hospital for x-rays but if he has pneumonia they would just treat it with amoxicillin and that is what he was getting for his ear infections. So, we got sent home with a prescription, and a whole list of things to look out for. Once we got a couple doses of his meds in him, his fevers broke! However, he still wouldn't eat anything and wasn't really wetting his diapers. At this point, it had been almost a full week since he had a good wet diaper.
On Sunday night, Jeremiah just wouldn't calm down and would not eat anything. He also hadn't had a wet diaper most of the day, so we called the hospital and then his doctor called us from his home. He reassured us that we were doing everything right, and that even if the diaper was just the tiniest bit damp that it was ok. But he was on the verge of needing to head to the hospital for some fluids. We got some pedialyte and luckily Jeremiah liked it (I tasted it...yuck!) So we let him drink some of that and then got a small bottle down him. He woke up with a wet diaper!
Long story short, it's been a week since his doctors appointment. Jeremiah is doing much better. We are still on the antibotic for a few more days. Now we are trying really hard to get Jeremiah back on his schedule and back to putting himself to sleep!
In other news, baby boy turned 7 months old! In the past month he has really gotten a hang of sitting up by himself! He will still topple over, usually backwards, but it doesn't phase him. He did topple forward once, hitting his forehead and nose pretty hard on the floor. He screamed but calmed down once I picked him up. He is also a pro at rolling from his tummy to back and also back to tummy. He has started to scoot himself backwards and has made a few attempts to get on his knees! I think he'll be crawling by the end of June!
In other big news, his first tooth cut through his gums on memorial day! It's not all the way up yet but you can see it!
This month-June- will be a busy one for us! My dad is coming for the month, we have a birthday party, our anniversary, and then at the end of June we have to start packing for our long vacation to Matt's dad's place in Nebraska. I'm so super excited to get to spend 10 days with family out there! Since Jeremiah will also be meeting Grandpa Peterson, Chris and his aunt, uncle and cousins for the first time, I won't run low on helpers with him! If anything, I'll probably have to beg just to hold my own child hehe!
